Description:
Avatan
is a sterile eye drops containing Travoprost 0.004%. Travoprost, a
prostaglandin analogue, is effective to reduce elevated intraocular
pressure (IOP).
Composition:
Each
ml contains Travoprost 0.04 mg.
Indications:
Avatan Eye Drops is indicated for the reduction of elevated
intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular
hypertension who are intolerant of or insufficiently responsive to
another intraocular pressure lowering medication, as monotherapy or
as adjunctive therapy.
Dosage
& Administration:
The
recommended dose is one drops of Avatan in the conjunctival sac of
the affected eye (s) once daily in the evening. If more than one
topical ophthalmic product is being used, the medicines must be
administered at least 5 minutes apart. When substituting another
ophthalmic antiglaucoma agent with Avatan, discontinue the other
agent and start the following day with Avatan.
Side-Effects:
The most frequently reported treatment-related side-effect was
ocular hyperaemia. Approximately 3% of patients discontinued
treatment due to conjunctival hyperaemia.
Contraindications:
Travoprost eye
drops is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitive to
travoprost or any excipients of this preparation.
Precautions:
Travoprost
should be used with caution in patients with active intraocular
inflammation (iritis/uveitis). Travoprost has not been studied in
patients with renal or hepatic impairment and should be used with
caution in such patients. Travoprost should not be administered
while wearing contact lenses. . Contact lenses should be removed
prior to the administration of the solution. Lenses may be
reinserted 15 minutes following administration of Travoprost.
Warning:
Travoprost
may cause changes to pigmented tissues.
Use
in children and adolescents:
The
efficacy and safety of Travoprost eye drops in patients below the
age of 18 have not been established.
Use in pregnant women:
Trovoprost
must not be used for pregnant women.
Use
in lactating women:
Since
animal studies indicate that travoprost and its metabolites may pass
into breast milk, it must therefore not be used in breast-feeding
women.
