ORALZIN

Zinc Sulphate

 

Composition:

Oralzin Tablet: Each film coated tablet contains Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP equivalent to 20 mg elemental Zinc.

Oralzin syrup: Each 5 ml contains Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate USP equivalent to 10 mg elemental Zinc.

Description:

Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate is a source of zinc which is an essential trace element required for human nutrition and involved in a number of body enzyme system. It stimulates the activity of approximately 200 enzymes that helps in different biochemical reactions in the body. Thus it supports a healthy immune system and helps in wound healing. Zinc deficiency mainly occurs in-patient during diarrhoea as excessive amount zinc losses through faeces. Zinc supplementation during diarrhoea strengths the immune system and helps the patient to recover faster. It reduces the duration & severity of diarrhoea & also reduces the chance of further attack by diarrhoea & reduces the lower respiratory tract infection in the subsequent months. Moreover, zinc supplementation as an adjuvant to standard antimicrobial treatment in children with pneumonia reduces the duration of pneumonia as well as hospital stay time. Most important all these findings have been clinically tested in Bangladesh by ICDDR,B and now has been recognized internationally.

Indications:

Zinc is essential for the correction of zinc deficiency problems like growth retardation, decreased taste and smell, alopecia, dermatitis, respiratory tract infection, diarrhoea, immunological dysfunction, failure to thrive, gonadal atrophy, impaired spermatogenesis and congenital malformation.

Dosage and administration:

Oralzin tablet  : One tablet 1-3 times daily or as directed by the physician. Oralzin Syrup: Child under 10 kg : 1 teaspoonful daily in divided dose. Child over 10 kg : 2 teaspoonful daily in divided dose.

Contraindications:

It is contraindicated in patient hypersensivity to zinc.

Precautions:

Food may decrease the absorption of the zinc.

Side effects:

In case of zinc mild side effects such as gastric ulcer, nausea, vomiting, metallic taste, headache, drowsiness have been observed.

Use in pregnancy and lactation:

Pregnant women and nursing mothers should avoid zinc doses higher than RDA amounts.

Drug interactions:

Tetracycline, Quinolones, Penicillamine, Biophosphate.

Overdose:

Zinc sulphate is corrosive in over dose. Symptoms are corrosion and inflammation of the mucous membrane of the mouth and stomach; ulceration of the stomach followed by perforation may occur.

Pharmaceutical precautions:

Store at controlled room temperature and protect from moisture.

Packing:

Oralzin Tablet: Box containing 5x10 tablets in blister pack.

Oralzin Syrup: Bottle containing 100 ml syrup.
