Povidone-Iodine USP 5%

Antiseptic Ointment

Description:

Arodin (Povidone-Iodine) antiseptic ointment, chemically polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine is a complex of Iodine and organic polymer, Povidone. It has a rapid and prolonged germicidal activity against a wide spectrum of pathogenic organisms including both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi, protozoa, virus and yeasts. It is active against bacterial spores. Even it is active in the presence of blood, serum, purulent exudate and necrotic tissues.

Composition:

Each gram ointment contains Povidone-Iodine USP 50 mg equivalent to available Iodine 5 mg.

Indications:

Arodin antiseptic ointment is indicated

For the treatment and prevention of infections in cuts and abrasions, minor surgical procedures, burns and other topical lesions.

As an adjunct to systemic therapy, in the treatment of primary or secondary topical infections, infected decubitus or stasis ulcers, pyodermas, infected traumatic lesions.

Directions for use:

Apply antiseptic ointment directly to the affected area after being cleaned and dried. May be covered with a dressing or bandage.

Contraindications:

Avoid regular use in patients with thyroid disorders or those receiving lithium therapy. It should not be used in patients who show hypersensitivity to Iodine.

Side-effects:

Rarely hypersensitivity reaction may occur, may interfere with thyroid-function tests.

Precautions:

The application of Povidone-Iodine to large wound or severe burns may produce systemic adverse effects such as metabolic acidosis, hypernatraemia and impairment of renal function. Use with caution in pregnancy and breast-feeding and renal impairment.

Storage:

Keep in a cool & dry place, away from light.

Packing:

Tube containing 10 g & 25 g ointment.
