ASMOLEX

Salbutamol

 

Description:

Asmolex (salbutamol) is a synthetic sympathomimetic agent with predominant beta-adrenergic activity and selective action over reports of bronchial muscle.

Composition:

Asmolex Tablet: Each tablet contains Salbutamol Sulphate BP 4.8 mg equivalent to Salbutamol 4 mg.

Asmolex Syrup: Each 5 ml syrup contains Salbutamol Sulphate BP 2.4 mg equivalent to Salbutamol 2 mg.

Indications:

Asmolex is indicated for the relief of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma of all types, chronic or acute, reversible airway obstruction, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic bronchitis and exacerbation of chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is also used in the prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm, premature labour.

Dosage & administration:

Adults and Children over 12 years: 2-4 mg tablet or 1-2 teaspoonful syrup three or four times daily.

Children of 6-12 years: 2 mg tablet or 1 teaspoonful syrup three or four times daily.

Children of 2-6 years: 1-2 mg tablet or 1/2 teaspoonful syrup three or four times daily or as directed by the physician.

Contraindication:

Asmolex is not indicated for threatened abortion. It should not be prescribed together with beta-blocking drugs. It also contraindicated in patients who have history of hypersensitivity to Salbutamol.

High risk group:

Unnecessary administration of the drug during the first trimester of pregnancy should be avoided. Caution is advertised in patients suffering from thyrotoxicosis.

Side Effects:

Fine tremor of skeletal muscle occurs in some patients. The effect is dose related and is caused by direct action on skeletal muscle and not for direct CNS stimulation. Care should be taken with patients suffering from hypertension, myocardial insufficiency of thyrotoxicosis.

Packing:

Asmolex Tablet: Box of 25 X 10's in strip.

Asmolex Syrup: Bottle of 100 ml.
