DIGEL

Antacid

 

Description:

Digel is a non-systemic antacid, which is well-balanced combination of Magnesium and Aluminium hydroxides, has an excellent acid-neutralizing capacity. It provides a relatively fast and sustained action. Both the tablet and suspension provide symptomatic relief of hyperacidity associated with heartburn, dyspepsia and flatulence.

Composition:

Digel Tablet: Each tablet contains dried Aluminium Hydroxide Gel BP 250 mg & Magnesium Hydroxide BP 400 mg.

Digel Suspension: Each 5 ml contains Aluminium Hydroxide compressed Gel (pharma grade) equivalent to Al2O3 175 mg & Magnesium Hydroxide BP 225 mg.

Indications:

Gastric & duodenal ulcers, heartburn, gastritis, dyspepsia and gastro-esophageal reflux diseases.

Dosage & Administration:

Tablet: 1-2 tablets four times daily, after or between meals and at bedtime or as directed by the physician.

Suspension: 2 teaspoonful four times daily, after or between meals and at bedtime or as directed by the physician.

Contraindications:

Antacid should not be used in patients with kidney failure and severely debilitated.

Side-effects:

Gastro-intestinal side-effects are uncommon. Occasionally diarrhoea or constipation may occur in overdose.

Precautions:

Renal diseases: Those with advanced renal failure are at risk of aluminum accumulation and toxicity. Aluminum hydroxide containing antacids should not be used when the creatinine clearance is less than 10 ml/min.

Digel is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Drug Interaction:

Drugs containing Aluminium hydroxide should not be taken concomitantly with any form of tetracycline as the absorption of tetracycline may be affected. Aluminium hydroxide may also reduce the absorption of digoxin.

Packing:

Digel Tablet: Box containing 20 x 10 Digel tablets in blister pack.

Digel Suspension: Bottle containing 200 ml Digel suspension.
