Iron Polymaltose Complex, Folic Acid and Zinc Sulphate

Description:

Ipec-plus is a formulation of iron polymaltose complex, folic acid and zinc sulphate.

Composition:

Each tablet contains iron polymaltose complex INN 188 mg equivalent to 47 mg elemental iron, folic acid BP 500 mg, zinc sulphate monohydrate USP 61.8 mg equivalent to 22.5 mg elemental zinc.

Pharmacology:

Iron (III) polymaltose complex is a water soluble, macromolecular complex of polynuclear iron (III) hydroxide and partially hydrolyzed dextrin (polymaltose). It is rapidly absorbed with a high rate of iron utilization and produces an effective increase in hemoglobin. Folic acid helps to the proper development of the baby. Zinc keeps enzymes working and helps metabolize proteins.

Indications:

Prevention and treatment of Iron, Folic Acid and Zinc Sulphate deficiency.

Dosage and administration:

One tablet daily. Two tablets may be required a day in severe cases or as directed by the physician.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to any ingredients of the formulation.

Side-effects:

Ipec-plus is well tolerated. Occasionally gastrointestinal irritations such as sensation of repletion, pressure in the epigastric region, nausea, constipation or diarrhea can occur.

High Risk Group:

Recommended in pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions:

As with all iron preparations, a dark coloration of the stool may occur which is without clinical significance.

Overdosage:

No intoxication or iron overloaded has been reported in case of overdose.

Drug Interactions:

No interaction have been found between iron polymaltose and food or between iron polymaltose

and other drugs due to its non-ionic nature .

Storage:

Keep in a cool and dry place, protect from light and moisture.

Packing:

Box containing 3×10’s tablets in blister pack.
