Composition:
Each tablet contains
a combination of Ascorbic Acid BP 75 mg and Sodium Ascorbate
USP 196.9 mg equivalent to 175 mg Ascorbic Acid. So each tablet
is equivalent to 250 mg Ascorbic acid.
Description:
Vitamin C (Ascorbic
acid) is a water soluble vitamin essential for the synthesis
of collagen and intercellular materials. It is increasingly
recognized as an agent with broad biologic function and importance.
Well-established functions include synthesis of hormones and
neurotransmitters, cytochrome P-450 activity and detoxification
of exogenous compounds, carnitine synthesis and cholesterol
metabolism as well as its well-known antioxidant functions with
protective results that may extend to cancer, coronary artery
disease, arthritis and aging.
Indications:
Vitamin C deficiency
disease, pregnancy, lactation, post-operative or other wound
healing state, infection, trauma, burns, cold exposure, fever,
stress, peptic ulcer etc. It is also prescribed for dental caries,
acne & leg ulcers. The conditions that are claimed having
benefits with megadose of vitamin C include common cold, asthma,
atherosclerosis, cancer, psychiatric disorders, increased susceptibility
to infections due to abnormal leucocyte function, infertility,
osteogenesis imperfecta. It has also been tried in Paget's disease
and opoid withdrawal and levodopa induced neurotoxicity.
Dosage:
Scurvy: 1 tablet
3 times daily.
Common cold: 1
gm or more daily in divided doses, i.e. 4 tablets daily.
In other conditions:
1-2 tablets daily.
Precaution:
Should be given
with caution to patients with hypernaluria.
Side-effects:
Ascorbic acid is
usually well tolerated. Large doses are reported to cause diarrhoea
and other gastro-intestinal disturbances.

Each box of 200
tablets contains 20 strips and 10 tablets in each strip. |
