Xelix SR

Indapamide USP

Composition:

Xelix SR Tablet: Each sustained release tablet contains Indapamide USP 1.5 mg.

Pharmacology:

Indapamide is a diuretic antihypertensive. It appears to cause vasodilation, probably by inhibiting the passage of calcium and other ions (sodium, potassium) across membranes. It has an extra-renal antihypertensive action resulting in a decrease in vascular hyperreactivity and a reduction in total peripheral and arteriolar resistance.

Indications:

  • Essential hypertension
  • Salt and fluid retention associated with congestive heart failure

Dosage & administration:

1 tablet daily, preferably in the morning.

Contraindications:

Thiazides and related diuretics should be avoided in refractory hypokalaemia, hyponatraemia and hypercalcaemia, symptomatic hyperuricaemia, and Addison's disease.

Side effects:

Side effects of Indapamide include headache, anorexia, gastric irritation, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea etc.

Precautions:

Monitoring of potassium and uric acid serum levels is recommended, especially in subjects with a predisposition or sensitivity to hypokalemia and in patients with gout. Although no allergic manifestations have been reported during clinical trials, patients with a history of allergy to sulfonamide derivatives should be closely monitored.

Drug interactions:

Other antihypertensive: Indapamide may add to or potentiate the action of other antihypertensive drugs. Norepinephrine: Indapamide, like the thiazides, may decrease arterial responsiveness to norepinephrine. Lithium: In general, diuretics should not be given concomitantly with lithium because they reduce its renal clearance and add a high risk of lithium toxicity.

Use in special groups:

Use in pregnancy:

Pregnancy category B drug: Indapamide is a US FDA pregnancy category B drug. This means that it may be used during pregnancy.

Use in lactation:

It is not known whether Indapamide is excreted in breast milk.

Use in elderly:

Low dose diuretic therapy has been shown to be effective and relatively safe in the management of hypertension in the elderly.

Overdose:

Symptoms of overdosage would be those associated with a diuretic effect like- electrolyte disturbances, hypotension and muscular weakness.

Storage:

Store in a cool & dry place, protect from light. Keep out of the reach of children.

Packing:

Xelix SR Tablet: Each box contains 30's tablets in blister pack.
