Cinnarizine

Description:
Zincin provides
quick relief of various symptoms of cerebral and peripheral
circulation disorders. Zincin protects attacks of vascular
headache such as migraine. Zincin normalizes cerebral
circulation time and improves cerebral irrigation in patients
suffering from the disorders of cerebral circulation.
Zincin normalizes
arterial pulsations in patients suffering from vasospastic disorders.
Zincin significantly
increases the rate of inflow or pulsation and the blood flow
in the most affected limb as well as the walking distance of
patients suffering from intermittent claudication.
Zincin reduces
the healing time of crural ulcers.
Zincin decreases
or eliminates symptoms of vestibular disturbances like vertigo,
tinnitus and autonomic manifestation, i.e. nausea, vomiting,
pallor and cold extremities and reduces or prevents future episodes.
Composition:
Each tablet contains
cinnarizine BP 15 mg.
Indications:
It is mainly used
for the symptomatic treatment of nausea and vertigo due to Meniere's
disease and other labyrinthine disturbances and for the prevention
and treatment of motion sickness. It is also used in the management
of various vascular disorders.
1. Cerebral circulatory
disorders
a) Prophylaxis
and maintenance therapy for symptoms of cerebral vascular spasms
and arteriosclerosis such as dizziness, ear buzzing (tinnitus),
vascular headache, unsociability and irritability, fatigue,
sleep rhythm disorders such as premature awakening, involutional
depressions, loss of memory and lack of concentration, incontinence
and other disorders due to ageing.
b) Sequel of cerebral
and cranial trauma.
c) postapoplectic
disorders.
d) Migraine.
2. Peripheral circulatory
disorders: Prophylaxis and maintenance therapy for symptoms
of vascular spasms and arteriosclerosis (obliterating arteritis,
thromboangitis obliterans, Raynaud's disease, diabetes, acrocyanosis,
perrio, etc.) such as: intermittent claudication, trophic disturbances,
pregangrene, trophic and varicose ulcers, paraesthesia, nocturnal
cramps, cold extremities.
3. Disorders of
balance
a) Prophylaxis
and maintenance therapy for symptoms of labyrinthine arteriosclerosis,
vestibular irritability, Meniere's syndrome, such as vertigo,
dizziness, giddiness, syncopal attacks, tinnitus, nystagmus,
nausea and vomiting.
b) Prophylaxis
of motion sickness.
Dosage &
Administration:
Adults : The usual
dose is 1 to 2 tablets three times daily.
Children: 5 to
12 years: Half of the adult age.
Motion sickness:
2 Tablets 2 hours before travel then one every 8 hours during
journey if necessary.
Peripheral arterial
disorders: 75 mg may be given two or three times daily in divided
doses.
Disorders of balance:
15 mg three times a day or, as advised by the physician.
Maintenance
Therapy:
After symptomatic
relief is obtained, maintenance therapy is indicated for an
optimum & lasting results. As Cinnarizine is totally atoxic
at therapeutic dose level and also well tolerated, the drug
is highly suitable for maintenance therapy.
Contraindication
& Side-effects:
Contraindications
are not known. Side effects such as somnolence and gastrointestinal
disturbances are extremely rare. They are transient and may
be readily prevented by achieving the optimal dosage gradually.
Combination therapy with other drugs is possible. Whenever indicated,
caution should be taken in hypotension (high doses). Rarely,
extrapyramidal symptoms in elderly on prolonged therapy.
