Arixatin is a medication used to manage and treat metastatic colorectal cancer. It is a member of the platinum-based chemotherapeutic class of drugs and is indicated in the adjunctive treatment of stage III colorectal cancer after resection of the primary tumor and for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer. It is FDA-approved in combination with infusional 5-fluorouracil and leucovorin. The platinum complex in the drug binds to DNA and forms cross-links. The cross-links inhibit DNA replication, transcription, and arrest of the cell cycle, resulting in cell death. It works synergistically with fluoropyrimidines such as 5-fluorouracil. Arixatin introduces a patient-convenient 100 mg pack that includes a complimentary infusion set. This value-added pack is designed to enhance convenience and provide an additional benefit to patients receiving Arixatin therapy.
